Dear, Self Doubt
I think it’s time we break up! Did you know that we are all born with self-doubt? You know that annoying little voice inside of you that says: “you’re not good enough; not pretty enough; too old to do that; not smart enough; what will people think”? Y’all I am here to tell you it’s time to train your mind to think differently! Its time to overcome self-doubt!
My Daddy is 63 years old. He is a manly man; you know the type of man who lives outside doing man things. He is always on his tractor, or building something in his shop. His hands tell the story of his life; they are rough, and callused.
I tell you this because he is the one who inspired this post. For Christmas this year he asked for a violin. Now I’m sure some would say “a violin”??? Why now? Why him? You don’t know how to play any instruments, why would you think you are talented enough to do this? See these thoughts come from haters, the people who cannot think outside the box. They want to make you feel dumb for wanting something better for yourself. Blessings attract haters. Press MUTE to their opinions!!
Let your haters be your be your motivators (straight from the lips of my coworker lol)
A better question to ask yourself is, “why CAN’T I do this?”!! We live our lives so consumed with not only worrying about what others think, but also listening to our own self- doubt.
For years I read other people’s blogs and followed along with their Instagram feeds. I dreamed of having my own blog to help inspire people to do what they love, but truth be told I didn’t feel smart enough, pretty enough, and definitely not tech savvy enough! I have always enjoyed writing, and LOVE photography, which makes a perfect fit for blogging- right!? When I was in high school I saved my lunch money for an ENTIRE year to buy my 1st real camera, and I have been obsessed ever since. Am I a professional? Nope! Do I enjoy it YES, and that’s all that matters.
Fast forward to today, you are here on my blog actually reading my work (poor grammar & all 🙂 and looking at my photos. Why? The honest truth is because I FINALLY trained my mind to think
“WHY NOT ME?”!
See guys, the Devil tries his best to convince us that we cannot fulfill the desires of our heart. If we let the voices of others, and our own self-doubt control our actions we will never be all that God has called us to be.
Is it going to be hard?? You bet! Will my Daddy pick up that violin, and play the most beautiful hymn you have ever heard? Did I just turn on my computer one day, and have a blog? Absolutely NOT!! Anything worth having is worth working for! I cannot even tell you how many how-to books, YouTube videos, and Pinterest articles I studied. It became my mission. I even totally geeked out, and learned HTML code in order to build my own website (in part because I’m cheap, but mostly because I wanted to prove to myself that I was indeed smart enough). I’m not saying any off this to brag, because Lord knows I have a lot more to learn! I simply hope to inspire you to take that leap you want to take!
God wants us to be happy fulfilled people! It is even written in his word:
Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans- Proverbs 16:3.
You may have dreams of starting your own business, losing weight, running a marathon, or even going back to school! No matter how big the dream, remember who YOU are! You are strong, you are smart, and you are so worth it! I hope you always FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS!
